Hip and trendy are two words that best describe the contemporary young men’s market for spring 07. Bold and directional prints and screens offset the soft jersey knits that they are applied on:
Tees and Polo’s:
Taking a fresh direction for spring, the tees with skulls that were prevalent for fall have taken on a spiritual approach including shirts with Buddha’s and tribal Gods.
Off-center screens with pickstitching and raw edging are featured from “black heart's brigade” and “Z Brand.”
“Diesel” and “Indigo Star” use bartacks, studs and rivets to embellish their tees and polo’s.
Woven shirts:
Button front shirts take on this well worn look when teamed with contrast stitch detail.” English Laundry” puts a new twist on the woven with tuxedo pleats and embroidered floral detailing. Western shirts in wrinkled wovens are offered and new when “Monarchy” stitches its name on the back in raw edge lettering. Soft and worn button front shirts with screen print detailing can also be found from “French Connection” and “Buffalo Exchange.”
Shorts:
Plaids are not just for golf anymore….. Designers have hopped onto this hot trend and have made it their own….Large plaids dominate spring collections. However, smaller checks and men’s wear stripes fall into this well rounded category. Surf inspired brands such as “Quiksilver,” “Billabong” and “Volcom” are featuring this look as well as “Ralph Lauren’s” preppier versions.
Denim:
Premium denim drives the young men’s business. Pocket detailing is key and include “Monarch’s” distressed, lightly colored jean with intricate stitch detail which included an appliquéd fleur de lis stud. “Diesel’s pocket detail was a mixing of dark and light colored denim while “Antik’s” pocket placement is key to their friendly fit!
