Figuring It All Out: Fashions To Flatter Your Figure

While Miss Bundchen and friends may have the Brazilian-goddess bodies to pull off any style, no matter how outlandish or flashy, the rest of us may have (gasp!) a few figure flaws here and there.  So what to do? Well, put the baggy sweatsuits back on the shelf because fall calls for feminine, tailored, and everything that looks put-together-chic.  Luckily, some of the best trends are also great figure-fixers:

A-Line ‘em up:

There’s a reason for this easy, feminine cut; true, it brings us back to our girlish days, but it also hides those extra cookies (and perhaps the third dinner roll with butter?) that like to hang out on your hips like they’re the hottest spot in town.  Just because you haven’t been to Pilates in a while doesn’t mean your fabulousness should suffer.  Courrges Sleeveless A-line Dress in white is a smart little answer to a big behind, and it also makes for a fresh, mod look this fall.  Buttons up the back and structured, cotton pique create a fitted look that is forgiving in that less-than-fit area but compromises nothing in terms of style.  Rebecca Taylor’s Ruffled Sleeveless Silk Dress is the epitome of feminine charm, and hangs just right.  Ruffles and a high neck highlight your busty side without crude cleavage, and hips are in hibernation underneath layers of floating, light silk, fashioned into a flawless A-line silhouette.

High and Mighty:

By now you’re well-aware that the high waist is on the rise (unless you’ve been living under a rock, in which case you don’t much care for fashion, anyway), but the trend also does double-duty as a leg-lengthener and waist-whittler (smaller waist without the sit-ups—sweet!).  Catherine Malandrino got the memo, or maybe she wrote it, with her High Waist Wide Leg Pant.  Sexy, chic, and understated, nothing could be more elongating, giving you the statuesque shape you covet with one, easy piece.  Body Wrap’s got the cure for the common muffin top (spare tire, belly pooch, you know the rest of the names…) with their High Waist Thong and Panty.  These awesome undergarments get us one step closer to physical perfection without a drop of sweat shed or blueberry bagel sacrificed.  Wear them under high-waisted pants, dresses, and even denim to add (actually, subtract) a little something that’ll have people asking if you’ve been logging extra hours at the gym.

Go Deep:  We are green-lighting cleavage, thanks to Zoa’s Deep V Knot Tank.  It makes the most out of what you’ve got and also conceals the tummy nicely with its longer-bodied version of a top.  The knot also gives the illusion of a tiny waist.  The Silk Wool Deep V-Neck Dress from Cynthia Rowley is a stunning jewel tone, perfect for fall, and it has got to be the classiest take on the plunge we’ve seen to date; i.e. you get to feature the ta-tas without looking brash.  Oh, and P.S, the mini-length skirt on this dress has a dramatic A-line silhouette, and we all know what that does to our butts—see above if your short-term memory is failing you (obvious hint: covers your ass-et nicely, come on, stay with me!).
