Wool sportcoats remind me of some of the older male teachers I had in school or my Dad when he wanted to dress up a bit. The sportcoat is proper but more casual than a suit and today the rich wool fabrics are softer and the prints more delicate.
Back in the day a "gentleman" always wore a jacket or sportcoat. Today, a sportcoat and slacks are still considered in style. Going somewhere and unsure of the dress? A relaxed looking sportcoat cannot be wrong. They look sharper than a soft sweater and can be peeled off quickly if you really feel too "dressed."
Wool sportcoats are just plain stylish and can swing in many directions depending on your outfit with changes from tweed to cashmere. Here are several ideas for wearing your sportcoat:
1. Pair it with jeans and a t-shirt for a little artsy attitude
2. Throw one over a sweater or shirt and woolen slacks of one color
3. Substitute your tweed blazer for the jacket of a solid suit. Be careful to make sure fabrics blend.
4. Wear a casual shoe such as a loafer, oxford or boot.
5 Add accessories such as a cap, tie or watch with leather band.
