Shopping for a bathing suit you love is right up there with having a root canal. It’s painful, time consuming and downright scary sometimes, but it needs to be done.
Good news and bad news, the one piece is back, but the bathing suit of the moment is the monokini -a bikini where the top is attached to the bottom. I did have one when I was 10, but I am not a fan of this suit. I think it’s hard to fit, but it must make interesting tan lines.
For summer 2009 swimsuits are taking their cue from clothing and accessories. Styles for one-piece, monokinis tankinis and bikinis all include vintage inspired, one shoulder, bandage and cut-away. The same goes for color and prints: ethnic, floral, animal, bright and good ole black and white. The key is to know your body type, best feature and wearing what suits you.
Tips: When you are trying on suits, notice where your eye is drawn because you want that to be your best feature. Definitely choose something you’re comfortable in over what’s trendy. When trying on suits remember to move around and see if you spend any time tugging and pulling on the suit. The issues most of us struggle with are:
Large Bust -You can minimize your overflowing cups with wider straps on your swimsuit or bikini, try also sport tops designed to keep everything in place and add the comfort of full coverage.
Small Bust-Try padded bikini tops . Suits with a horizontal neckline or bloused top will draw attention to your shoulders and give the illusion of a fuller bust.
Long Torso- horizontal stripes on a bikini will allow the eye to focus on the top and bottom, not the middle. A sports top will also camouflage a long torso by creating a more uniform look.
Short Torso- vertical stripes.
Wide Shoulders-Choose a halter top as they help make shoulders look more proportional.
Belly Bulge-Try an empire waist. It draws attention to the bust line and slims the tummy area. Solid, dark-colored swimsuits give a streamlined look and a V neckline draws the eyes up towards the bust and the face.
Heavy Hips, Thighs and Backside- a pretty skirt or shorts is a fun way to dress up a swimsuit while hiding heavier zones. A bloused top also creates proportion and helps minimize the look of heavy legs.
Short Legged-A high cut leg on a swimsuit elongates your legs. A solid one-piece suit creates an elongating affect on the petite gal and doesn't break up the body. Steer clear of shorts and skirts on the bottom as they tend to make you appear shorter.
Good luck!
