Lots of trends from the 80’s are rearing their heads for fall/winter 2009. Leg warmers are among them and yes, they're back with a vengeance. Leg warmers are typically part of a dancer’s uniform (remember Flashdance?) to keep their muscles warm, so it might be a bit unfair to call them a trend and a fad, but I am.
Even if you’re not a dancer you might want to break down and add a pair to your wardrobe, especially if you live in a really cold climate. They are definitely a stylish way to stay warm.
Here are a few ideas for you folks who secretly wanted to be a ballerina.
1. Try a pair of leg warmers instead of leggings.
2. Wear a pair over skinny jeans over a pair of booties or killer heels.
3. Throw a pair on over your boyfriend jeans with a matching sweater or cardigan.
4. Tuck them into a pair of this season’s thigh-high boots with just enough peeking over the top.
5. Match a pair of leggings, gloves, scarf and hat for an instant old school retro look and head to toe warmth.
Stick to solids for the most stylish affect and please avoid rainbow leg warmers if you’re over the age of 12 no matter how nostalgic and misty eyed you get.
Cheers,
Tracey, November 2009
