Fashion designers dabbled in ruffles a bit for spring/summer fashions, but it’s a major clothing and accessory accent for Fall/Winter 2008.
Ruffle accents are showing up everywhere and practically everything. Traditionally used as an accent on hems and sleeves, ruffles tend to scream formal, peasant look or country western.
This season look for some very non-traditional uses of ruffles, such as on belts, handbags and even hair accessories. Ruffles are going long and short and it seems more is better with this accent. Rows and rows of ruffles are showing up on hems, necklines, sleeves and also being used to create bustles and trains.
Normally an evening or high fashion look, this accent easily translates to day when used on a casual clothing item or fabric. Plaid is a big favorite for casual wear and ruffles on wool and denim are crossing over from day to night.
This accent if fabulous but can be tricky if you’re not careful. Use this accent with caution, ruffles can be a big no-no for some of us, especially if you tend to be busty or go into ruffle overkill with more than one ruffled item.
