They say nice guys finish last but that is definitely not the case for fall/winter 2009. The bad boy, fashion conscious look is not catching our eye at this fashion moment. The overall “it look” for fall/winter 2009 is the nerd, good guy, boy-next door. This look does it for me no matter what year it is.
Open any men’s magazine and the images are of squeaky clean good guys complete with prescription or faux glasses. Take that librarian fantasy and re-work it for yourself. Although you guys are paying more attention to your clothes these days, the idea is to make it look effortless, like you really didn’t put a lot of thought into your outfit… but you did.
Here are a few key pieces you should make sure are part of your wardrobe if you want to channel your inner boy scout , computer geek or Clark Kent:
1. A pair of great fitting “loose” jeans or khakis.
2. White button down preferably oxford or non fitted shirt.
3. A pair of grown-up casual shoes, like driving moccasins, loafers, oxfords or boots.
4. V-neck or crewneck solid sweaters and pah-leeze don’t forget some kind of shirt underneath.
5. A classic coat like a vintage style overcoat, peacoat or dark down parka or vest.
6. Accessories are important here but keep the flash to a minimum, maybe just a great watch, leather bag and glasses, horned rimmed or wire.
Oh, be still my beating heart.
