Always part of the fashion world but usually reserved for high fashion and special occasions, feathers are being used to adorn everyday garments and accessories this season.
Feathers and feather prints are showing up on everything from heels to headbands, jewelry to jackets and from skirts to sweaters. Feathers have been coming in since spring 2009 but they seem to have more appeal in the cold weather months. Along with being pretty, feathers are an easy and inexpensive way to add fun and festivity to your wardrobe.
Some fashion items that had been considered over the top and reserved for the catwalk are being embraced by the everyday fashionista. Full on feather garments like skirts, tops and dresses are showing up on the racks at local malls from east to west. If you’re not ready for a feather ball gown or cocktail dress, you can take a plain black dress or outfit and instantly transform it into something special with one or two feather accessories. The trick is not to overdo it.
Here are a few ideas to help your wardrobe take flight.
1. Feather Handbag
2. Feather adorned shoes or shoe clips.
3. A headband or hair pin.
4. A feather pin or earrings.
5. Add a pair of feather cuffs or a scarf adorned with feathers.
6. If you’re not into the real thing try a feather printed fabric or silver or gold toned feather inspired jewelry.
