The mini skirt is a staple for warm weather and summer 2009 is no exception There are several skirt shapes that are taking their turn in the spotlight this season and one that is white hot right now is the mini (or at the knee) prairie skirt.
At first glance this trend might appear to be too young or dated for the majority of the fashionista population, but if worn with the right accessories and top it can be almost ageless. I am a fan of the prairie skirt and confess I owned a few back in the day, but tend not to wear them for fear of looking too full figured. Although I won't be sporting one, I do like this mini on my fellow fashion mavens.
If you have the legs this is definitely a fun and flirty style and gives you a bit of girlie playfulness you can't fight when you're wearing one. Since there is a country/western theme flowing in the fashion world right now, unless it's what you're going for, you might want to be careful and steer clear of shoes and accessories with too much of a western feel, like ruffled blouses, wide belts and ankle boots.
If worn with the right accessories this lil' skirt can go to work just as easily as it can go on a date or to the rodeo. To avoid looking like a naughty Laura Ingalls, try pairing this skirt with a form fitting top, pretty blouse or one of this season's short fitted blazers. Add a pair of flats for a great daytime outfit. For a never fail easy outfit, try pairing a black prairie mini with a basic white tank, sizzling hot shoes, oversized jewelry and you're ready for the evening.
