Lucky for those of us on a tight fashion budget, this year we don’t have to put away our sleeveless and short sleeved clothing just because it's November. Layering is both chic and practical for fall/winter 2009.
You can easily layer your warm weather clothing over or under a sweater or a long sleeved shirt and be instantly in style. Solid clothing is the best bet for this trend and black, grays and blues are great fall colors for classic layering. If classic isn’t your style you can go boho chic mixing prints and solids layered with stripes and patterns underneath. Have fun and use your imagination because almost anything goes.
Turtlenecks and black leggings are two key pieces for this creating this look, so there is no reason to angst over a major shopping spree to be in style. Be creative and work these items into your wardrobe or if your able to hit the mall, a couple of designers have done whole lines with this trend complete with instructions.
Here are a few ideas to inspire you to lay it on:
1. Try a turtleneck under a sheath or sleeveless dress or tunic.
2. Leggings or tights under miniskirts and short dresses.
3. Start with a white shirt or button down under your layers.
4. Don’t forget your skinny jeans in place of tights and leggings for a completely boho chic look.
5. Wear a sheer dress or tunic over black tights, black turtle neck shoes or boots for a fun European struggling artist look.
In love with layers,
Tracey, November 2009
