Menswear is a popular trend and inspiration for women’s clothing for fall/winter 2009. One of the must-have items right now is the boyfriend blazer. For novice fashionistas, a boyfriend blazer (BFB) is a blazer that looks more like a guy's blazer in appearance and fit than most women's jackets, but is still designed for the female form.
The BFB is a fun trend and can be done in an array of fabrications such as: wool, velvet or even denim. You might think basic black is the way to go, but for this trend you might want to try navy, grey or interesting menswear tweed, and then add a few feminine accessories for fun. Take a look at Reese Witherspoon in November's In-Style Magazine. They've styled her wearing a blazer from the boys department at Brooks Brothers. Very cute, not that Reese could ever look anything but.
Here are a few tips on how to wear this hot menswear trend:
1. Wear a BFB over a short or long evening dress
2. Try one paired with this season’s boyfriend jean: add heels or a fun menswear flat to complete the look
3 Pair your BFB with a cute mini and oversized sweater, add black tights or leggings and a pair of cool boots or booties.
4. Wear it with winter shorts and fun tights or menswear detailed trousers for a fun salute to what was once termed Annie Hall style.
5. Top a white frilly blouse, button-down or t-shirt with a BFB and don’t forget your pearls for a fun twist.
