If you can only afford one new bag for summer 2009, my suggestion is to make it a tote. I have always been a “big bag” fan so this is one of my favorite trends. No longer just the plain and “preppy” fabric bag tote bag of L.L. Bean fame, the tote has gone glam.
As far as being a fashion item, the tote bag has done a 360, becoming an official handbag for everyday items like makeup, money and cell phones. The tote bag used to be a non fashion item, and women carried them only for extra items like books, work, and occasional overnight excursions. Today the tote bag can go anywhere with almost any outfit day or night.
For classic gals there are tote bags in basic colors taking your pick of soft leather, reptile skins, fabric and straw. To be right on time with this trend try a tote that works one of the hottest fashion trends, some of them to choose from are: black and white, bold colors, fringe, chain handle, embellished with flowers, embroidery or beads. Two interesting fabrications you also might want to try is quilted and rouched in either fabric or leather.
Whatever your fashion style and budget there is a tote bag that will coordinate with your summer wardrobe. Here is a fun and frugal fashion idea: make a fabulous tote your statement piece and build your outfit around it. Just add a pair of matching shoes, dress in all one color and you're ready to hit the fashion streets.
