Ripped jeans are another hot summer 2009 trend that is reminiscent of the 80’s and 90’s. I like this look best when it isn’t over done or doesn’t look completely deliberate.
One of my favorite ultra casual "uniforms" is a threadbare a pair of Levis paired with a white button down or t-shirt. From jeans to skirts to shorts, torn denim is being embraced by key celebs which always heightens its fashion appeal.
Today, the ripped jean is a bit different from what we saw a few years back. No longer soley casual, ripped jeans have gone glam. Models, celebrities and we everyday folks are pairing ripped jeans with fabulous mile high and embellished shoes, tons of faux and real jewelry and wearing them for after dark.
I am a big fan of this trend, as I practically live in jeans and like to dress up and “over accessorize” but I have a do and don’t rule that I follow when I sport it: Do choose your holes wisely there is a thin line between sexy and obscene. Don’t over expose. Sexy is definitely the look this time around for the ripped jean, but unless you’re a high fashion model or celebrity on a fashion shoot, keep it tasteful -- no need to display goods to look good.
Happily ripped,
Tracey, June 2009
