The use of fringe this summer is reminiscent of the flappers in the 1920’s but the look is totally today. Normally this embellishment is used primarily as an accent on handbags and leather goods but fringe is showing up as the main fabrication for skirts, dresses, tops and on accessories such as necklaces, shoes and handbags.
Because it’s so decorative I think this trend looks best in black or any other neutral color, but I have seen some really clever color combos and shading variations that are quite tasteful and would not be difficult to work into your wardrobe. There are versions in fine silk, suede, leather and even metal.
If you don’t think you can pull off a full-on fringe garment, test the waters with a great necklace or even a pair of this season's wedge or ankle boots adorned with fringe. At the very least you can work in a great handbag.
