You will definitely want to add a pedicure to your to-do list this summer because the “it shoe” for summer 2009 is the sandal, specifically the gladiator or cage shoe.
Gladiator/Cage shoes have been down the runways and across every magazine page since they first appeared in fall 2008. If you add one pair of shoes to your wardrobe this season make it a gladiator/cage shoe. I am not a fan of baring my toes or heels, but I broke down and purchased a pair myself.
Whether you’re a fan of heels or flats there is something for everyone. I went with basic black, but the fabrications and color choices are endless. You’re sure to find something to work into your summer wardrobe. For heels and flats there is wood, leather, cork, and espadrille type jute if you’re into naturals and basics. You can also go with a bright color or animal print and make these an outfit focal point.
Embellishment is another hot trend that has been adapted to footwear, especially sandals. Flowers, fringe, ruffles and metal are some of the ways designers are “dressing up” your summer dogs. Have fun. This is the time to load up on footwear because sandals can be affordable -- if you look around.
