Chains are a major fashion accent for Spring/Summer 2008.  Be it metal gold, silver, copper or man made plastic or Lucite or natural wood and bamboo, it all about chains.

When I see chains used on a garment or as an accessory I instantly think of Chanel, who adopted the use of chains as her signature.

For spring/summer 2008 it like every designer has joined the “chain gang” Chains are being used as accents on all sorts of fashion items for the coming seasons.  The most typical use for chains is as purse handles and belts.

I have seen several non traditional uses that I think are pretty clever and look great. Like tiny chain detailing on shoes.  Chanel tended to use large chains for her handbags but with other designers the size of the link seems to run from small to large, with no particular size being favored.

One particular way chains are being used in 2008 is for necklaces.  I think done in the right size and textile this can be a great look with the chain alone, it’s classy and can be bold or understated.   I have also seen some really imaginative uses combined with other findings and textiles, such as adding large unusual ethnic beads, leather and feathers.

So whether you choose to go plain, go with flavor or bling, go with the gang, the chain gang.
