Men's fashion has been inspired by the military. This is a trend we have seen before but in an extremely casual manner with fatigues and camouflage prints.
Attention guys, the military inspiration for 2009 is a bit more sophisticated, and for those of you of age, sexy. This trend seems to have started on the European runways with some big name designers showing full-on military or marching band regalia. Lucky for we common-folk it morphed into a mainstream fashion inspiration.
Here are a few ideas to arm you for the fashion war of fall/winter 2009:
1. When shopping look for military inspired details look for double or metal buttons, epaulets and utilitarian pockets on jackets and shirts.
2. Look for military inspired colors like khaki, olive drab and navy blue.
3. Outerwear - Try an olive colored topper, trench coat or bomber jacket in leather or down.
4. Combat inspired boots that lace up or have zipper and pocket details.
5. Substitute your cool jeans or khakis for a pair of multi-pocketed cargo pants. If you're short on cash, try a few military inspired accessories, like quasi utilitarian belts, military inspired hats and cap or a sturdy duffle bag.
6. A military style watch is a handsome addition to any look.
It’s been said women (and maybe men too) go wild for a man in uniform, so any investment in this trend could be worth it.
At ease,
Tracey, November 2009
