Unless you live in a warm climate, chances are the need for a heavy duty winter coat has arrived. Believe it or not there are almost as many fashion choices for coats for guys as there are for women.
One of this season’s hot cold weather coat styles for men is actually a classic, the peacoat. A peacoat is an outer coat usually made of heavy navy wool; it was originally worn by European sailors. Peacoats have broad lapels, double breasted fronts and often large wooded or metal buttons and slash pockets. They can be miltary in style.
The navy peacoat never goes out of style and has diehard fans of all ages. It’s often purchased vintage, but they appear every year on the racks . Navy blue is the usual color choice, but for fall/winter 2009 the choices are endless.
Here are a few colors, fabrications, and suggestions for this updated classic.: plaid, camel, tweed, herringbone, moleskin, short, military and of course navy. Style suggestions:
1. Pop up the collar to protect your neck and chest from the elements. Add a scarf at the neck for a classic casu-cool look.
2. Don’t wear a pea coat with a suit; it’s too short and possibly shorter than your jacket -- plus it has a far too casual feel for a suit.
