Guys, whether you get excited about party dress or not you will want to wear the right outfit to this month's gatherings. A little decode on party attire follows so you can eat, drink and be merry... in the right outfit.
When the invitation says:
Black tie it means formal attire. Men wear tuxedos.
Formal is usually the same as black tie, but in some trendier cities like New York or Los Angeles, it could mean a black shirt, no tie with a tux.
White tie or ultra-formal requires men wear full tux, with white tie, vest and shirt.
Black tie optional or black tie invited gives the option of wearing a tuxedo or formal dress but it should clue you into the formality of the event, meaning a dark suit and tie would be your other option.
Creative black tie leaves room for trendy interpretations of formal wear. You can go more modern with a tux -- maybe a black shirt, no tie. Add color as suits your personality and mood.
Semi-formal or after-five means that tuxes are not required
Business formal is the same as semi-formal
Cocktail Attire means dark suits.
Informal is often interpreted as the same as casual but it actually calls for the same dress as semi-formal -- dark suits.
Festive attire - An office favorite, this is business wear with a bit of color or accessories.
Dressy casual - Trousers and a sport coat. Jeans, shorts, T-shirts and other casual looks are not appropriate
Casual generally means anything goes.
Didn't realize there were so many options did you? I didn't either. Have fun and enjoy.
