Now that we are all done with shopping for gifts, its time to get back into real shopping. There are several fashion trends from Fall/Winter 2008 that crossed over into spring 2009 Three of them are:
Floral prints are still going strong as a major influence in fashion for spring 2009. Shoes, clothing and accessories will be in bloom again. Spring tends to inspire soft pastels and watercolor floral prints, but for spring 2009 we are seeing all shades of colors. This is always a favorite of mine; I am a big fan of floral prints and tend to lean towards darker tones. This is a fun feminine look that you can slowly work into your wardrobe with a few accessories and key wardrobe pieces. One idea is a pair of floral print shoes and matching handbag. You can work these pieces together as a set or alone, normally this might be considered death by floral, but matching your shoes and bag is hot for 2009. Another idea is a dress, or skirt or top in one of this season’s floral prints, pair it with a solid piece or dare another trend and try mixing it with another floral print.
Bows they are everywhere and on everything… again. Spring 2009 is all tied up in a bow. Bows are once again on the fashion scene as accents on shoes, handbags and garments I am a huge fan of bows, and believe they can be worn safely after the age of 12. Almost every designer jumped on this trend for Fall/Winter 2008 and will be riding it right on through to Spring 2009. One slight change is the big puffy bow we saw during fall and the Holiday season has slimmed down to a narrower, “less puffy” bow. If you’re not sure if you’re a bow wearing kind of gal, you can check this trend out with a simple accessory like a belt or headband in one of the many fabrications on the market. There is still a big whimsical feminine theme going on in the fashion world, Over-sized Alice in Wonderland headbands and Miss Kitty Bustle bows have transformed into sleek flat bow headbands and flat sash like belts a la Audrey Hepburn.
Another hot spring trend that is carrying over to spring 2009 that is a favorite of mine is mixing patterns. Mixing print pattern is often a signature look for quite a few couture designers and many mainstream designers incorporating this into their lines. This look can be a major HOT or a major NOT. The trick to not looking like your 5 year-old niece who picked out her own clothes is staying in the same color palates. That is fashionista talk for the matching colors in each print. When you pair a top print to a bottom print, or vice versa, you want to match the colors in one print with the other. This can be done with matching floral to floral or print to print or plaid to plaid. For those of you, who are very daring, try your hand at matching a floral with another kind of print or even a plaid with a plaid of a different color scheme. This has been successfully done in quite a few magazine layouts, but I don’t suggest it for rookies.
