Wide exaggerated shoulders are on the racks as one of spring 2009’s hot looks. I don’t know about this trend; if not worn with complete caution you can border on looking like you are starring in an 80’s sitcom rerun. Big hair is a definite no-no.
Wide shoulders are making a comeback on jackets, dresses and coats, and are actually quite flattering over slimming slacks and skirts. The choices of styles and fabrications are endless. Try a black leather cropped jacket or a brightly colored light wool jacket with ruffled details over a pencil skirt or high-waisted pants. Or try pairing a constructed silk tuxedo jacket with cropped skinny or wide-legged trousers for a look that is just perfect for a date or semi-formal event.
Be careful not to overdo it. Pair your jackets with a body hugging top like a soft camisole or blouse. One thing that will be sure to please frugal fashionistas, some of the jacket styles gracing the pages of magazines and catwalks are so beautifully constructed and detailed, they can do double duty as a top.
