Okay, so the summer is just heating up and we still have the dog days of August and warm sunsets of September to enjoy. But still, being ever-so-in-the-know, you must have some interest in the must-have pieces and irresistible looks for the coveted season that lies between summer and winter. Here they are:
- Purple People Eater: Get plummy with the color of the moment. Shades of grape, eggplant, and amethyst paint the palette for fall fashion. Vanitas’ Silk Dress in Purple Print will have you fall-ready. Hold on to a little bit of summer with the fantastic print and flowy body, but be ready for the next season thanks to the rich color and longer length, easy to pair with classic pumps and a leather jacket. Fontanelli’s Two-In-One Leather & Suede Satchel Bag looks like the ultimate in royal luxury, at a price that will make you turn purple; the Italian purse is expertly crafted, accented beautifully with gold hardware, and contrast stitching, sure to be a show-stopper. Walter’s Pleated Dress in Purple is a softer take on the deep hues we’re seeing, and subtle details like buttons on the back and pleating down the front make for a very unique piece. Wear it now or save it for September.
- Mad for Plaid: Anything that makes you look like a lumberjack (minus the splintered hands and Paul Bunyan beard) is in demand. The familiar pattern takes on a life of its own, with updates to the color, width, and texture of the classically red and black print. The Boat Neck Dress by Nanette Lepore is the picture-perfect representation of such a trend, and the silk fabrication and short length lend a feminine touch to the stereotypically manly design, making you the epitome of modern, girlish charm. The Honduras’ Plaid Silk Voile Dress in Blush or Parchment by Harkham is perfect for the transition from summer to fall; wear it to the Labor Day BBQ and be the most fashion-forward attendee, and then fast forward to fall fashion with a pair of brown boots, keeping your look in line with the next season. Moschino’s Silk Bermudas in black and white plaid are perhaps the best thing to happen to fall in a long time. Reminiscent of that flannel dad used to wear when he ran out to the store late-night, they are an overwhelmingly tempting splurge in luxurious silk. P.S. Pants and shorts are here to stay—check out Part II of the Fall Preview!
- Give Yourself Some Structure: Look for a departure from the flowy silhouettes of summer and re-introduce structured pieces into your wardrobe for fall. Blazers, pantsuits, and pencil skirts make a serious statement this season, making lady-like synonymous with looking polished and put-together. Theory’s Aniko Pencil skirt is perfectly Autumn, with a high waist and all, for a clean silhouette that makes it as versatile as it is fashionable. Dinner just got a whole lot sexier, with grown-up styles like the Off-the-Shoulder Tucked Cocktail Dress from Nicole Miller; it’s a welcomed digression from the a-line and full skirts we saw for 4th of July and summer weddings.
Stay tuned for the rest of the Fall Trends line up….
