I am a big fan of this trend. We have been seeing hints of "lady-like" since spring, but it’s officially on for fall. My grandma was often heard to advise, “A lady always…"
My personal lectures involved stockings, gloves and lipstick and how a lady never leaves the house without them. Although I rolled my eyes at the time, over the years these 3 items have appeared on my list of favorites. This trend is nice because it’s easy to incorporate into your wardrobe and won’t break the fashion bank since it involves simply adding some of the trends already on the fashion scene. Think Jackie O or Breakfast at Tiffany's for a visual on this clean, classic style of dress. Michelle Obama is a more current fan of this style. Here's how to make it work for you:
1. Wear a dress or skirt (no pants) but make sure it's knee length, form fitting with feminine accents, lace, buttons, pleats, and drapes. Peplums are a very current lady-like accent on garments right now; nicely accenting curves. Keep your top simple -- a fitted white blouse looks lovely with a sleek pencil skirt.
2. Accessorize always with with coordinating items: handbag and shoes, earrings and necklace, and of course gloves -- match them to your shoes or scarf.
Think classic, preppy and elegant when making your choices.
With fifties flair,
