New York Mets 1985 St. Pattys Day Jersey - Darryl Strawberry
In 1985, George Plimpton created a mythological figure in Sid Finch. Sports Illustrated readers received an April Fools Day article depicting the unorthodox Finch at Spring Training with the Mets. The New York Mets also found a way to celebrate St. Patricks Day by wearing a green jersey. The Mets finished the 1985 season in second place, three games behind the eventual Pennant winning St. Louis Cardinals. Darryl Strawberry finished the 1985 season with a .277 average, hitting 29 home runs.
